About Flynn
Flynn, born in January of 2006, has a rare (un-named) Chromosome Disorder and one of the main attributes which comes with this is Global Development Delay.
His technical Chromosome diagnosis:
3 p26.3 - p26.2 Deletion and
4 p16.3 – p16.1 Duplication.
This 3p deletion includes about 14 genes and the 4p duplication includes about 104 genes.
Flynn has also been diagnosed with High Functioning Autism (HFA) and Sensory Processing Disorder (SPD).To explain briefly; SPD is a complex neurological condition that impairs the functional skills of 1 in 20 children. People with Sensory Processing Disorder (SPD) misinterpret everyday sensory information, such as touch, sound and movement. They may feel overwhelmed by sensory information, may seek out sensory experiences or may avoid certain experiences.
He needs visuals around the place to prompt or remind him with tasks.Visuals and Heavy work are part of his everyday techniques to help him regulate.
Sometimes Flynn finds it difficult to make friends as he is unsure what to do, he may do something inappropriate. This can be
overcome by a question like “I don’t understand, please use your words” or “would you like to join in?”
Our goal is to encourage Flynn to participate and communicate in a way like all the other children of his age.He can do this
as he has full comprehension; however he just needs a little help from all of us.
Flynn is a loving and curious little boy and indulges in hugs and entertaining people. All children have specific needs and interests and we hope that by learning about Flynn you may be empowered to understand people a little different that you come across.
